Not All Furnace Tune-Ups Are Equal

Dave Brinkhaus, owner of Brinks Heating & Air, performs a furnace tune up

It’s tempting to jump on a $49 tune-up special — the savings look real on paper. But in our experience, unusually low tune-up prices often come with a catch. Some companies use deeply discounted tune-ups as a foot in the door, then “find” problems that require expensive repairs whether they exist or not. A thorough tune-up takes time, expertise, and a genuine commitment to your system’s health — not a quick once-over designed to generate upsell opportunities. At Brinks, our tune-up price reflects the work we actually do. You’ll get a complete 13-point inspection, an honest assessment of what we find, and zero pressure to spend more than you need to.

When Should You Schedule Your Furnace Tune-Up?

Best Time —
September & October

Early fall is the ideal window. Your furnace has been sitting idle all summer, temperatures are still mild enough that you’re not dependent on heat yet, and there’s time to address any issues we find before winter arrives.

Don’t Wait Until Winter

Once heating season hits, scheduling gets harder and the consequences of a furnace problem get more serious. A tune-up in November or December is still better than no tune-up — but September and October give you the most flexibility and peace of mind.

What to Expect During Your Tune-Up

1

Schedule at Your Convenience — Call or request service online and we’ll get you on the schedule at a time that works for you. I recommend booking in September or early October to beat the fall rush.

2

Full 13-Point Inspection — I will work through the complete checklist — inspecting, cleaning, testing, and adjusting your system from top to bottom. Most tune-ups take approximately one hour.

3

Just the Facts — When the inspection is complete, I’ll go over everything I found and give you a clear, honest picture of your system’s condition. If something needs attention, I’ll explain it plainly and give you options. If everything looks good, I’ll tell you that too.

Furnace Tune-Up — Frequently Asked Questions

I recommend an annual tune-up, ideally every fall before the heating season begins. Annual maintenance keeps your furnace running efficiently, helps prevent unexpected breakdowns, and can extend the overall life of your system.

A complete Brinks tune-up typically takes about one hour. I work thoroughly and efficiently so you’re not waiting around all day.

A tune-up is preventive maintenance — we inspect, clean, and test your system to catch small issues before they become bigger problems. A repair addresses a specific issue that’s already causing your furnace to malfunction. Think of a tune-up like an oil change — you do it to prevent problems, not because something is already broken.

No. If I find something that needs attention, I’ll tell you about it and explain your options. If everything looks good, I’ll tell you that too. I’ve built my reputation on honest service, and that starts with the tune-up. You’ll never feel pressured to spend more than your system actually needs.
